American University student Taylor Dumpson is bringing one of the first event student activist lawsuits against alt-right and online trolls, according to The Chronicle for Higher Education. In her suit, Dumpson states that, “just one day after being inaugurated as the first female African American student government president at American University [she] became the victim of racially motivated and threatening hate crimes on her college campus and a vicious online campaign of racially motivated harassment designed to intimidate.” The Daily Stormer under the direction of founder and publisher Andrew Anglin (also named in the suit) encouraged a pattern of harassment that took an emotional and educational toll says Dumpson. Should Dumpson be successful, her lawsuit could pave the way for those subject to online attacks to look for legal remedies.
