: Lawsuit Alleges Fake News Over Fox’s Coverage of DNC Staffer’s Death

Fox News ran a story in May, later retracted, that a Democratic National Committee staffer was behind the leak of tens of thousands of emails from the DNC to WikiLeaks. The staffer, Seth Rich, was fatally shot in July 2016 in a robbery gone awry according to police. But the murky circumstances led to many online conspiracy theories fueled further by the Fox report. Now a lawsuit filed against Fox News by its own contributor Rod Wheeler alleges quotes were fabricated and the false story was used as a diversion from the Russia election hacking inquiry. “Rod Wheeler unfortunately was used as a pawn by Ed Butowsky, Fox News and the Trump administration to try and steer away the attention that was being given about the Russian hacking of the DNC emails,” said Wheeler’s lawyer, Douglas Wigdor.

: Fox Retracts DNC Conspiracy Story

After backlash about its report linking the death of DNC staffer to his role in potentially leaking DNC emails to Wikileaks, Fox put out a statement that, “The article was not initially subjected to the high degree of editorial scrutiny we require for all our reporting.” Fox’s Sean Hannity however said he would continue to pursue the investigation.
